“Throughout the process the team provided excellent feedback, the candidates were well briefed and most importantly we didn’t waste any time. Ultimately, the biggest result is that over a period of seven weeks we briefed, interviewed and offered a senior position and we couldn’t be happier with the result — a fantastic addition to our team and a brilliant fit for future growth.”
Enva Wood Recycling is a key part of the Enva Group, one of the leading full-service providers of recycling and resource recovery solutions in the UK. Enva are specialists in recovering a broad range of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials for re-use in manufacturing and energy conversion. The organisation also provides a complete portfolio of industrial, water and waste water services. Enva boasts an annual turnover of £280m, whilst employing more than 1,400 people across the UK and Ireland.
As the business experienced further growth, Enva recognised the need to develop their senior leadership team and provide further proactive support for the Business Development Director. The role of Commercial Manager was deemed a business-critical position in order for the wood recycling division to reach and exceed the organisation’s capabilities. The successful candidate would be tasked with leadership and development of the sales team, implementing effective budgeting policies and procedures, whilst delivering an effective sales strategy.
A high visibility position, with regular reporting into the group board, our brief was to identify a high performing individual who could develop close working relationships, invest time to develop the existing team and give a strategic vision of sales growth opportunities. In addition, Enva needed someone who demonstrated immediate leadership credibility. That’s why they turned to Newman Stewart, because of our expertise operating at this senior level within the waste management industry.
We used a combination of confidential approaches via our executive search and management selection process, identifying candidates capable of fulfilling the assignment brief and utilising our extensive network within the designated geographical radius. Having interviewed numerous prospects, measuring both technical capabilities and behaviours, we presented a shortlist of five high calibre candidates. Following our face to face interviews, a series of psychometric tests and a two-stage interview process with Enva, a successful candidate was identified and offered the position as Commercial Manager.
Consistent and transparent communication with the client throughout the process meant that we had an in depth understanding of their objectives and organisational culture, leading us to exactly what they were looking for. Our regular feedback sessions, coupled with our evidence-based search process and direct approach, meant that we could act quickly. Ultimately, Enva trusted that our process would deliver an exceptional candidate who could bring the desired results.
Filling this business critical role in a professional and timely manner meant that Enva didn’t waste precious time and resources attempting to source candidates themselves. By engaging with us at an early stage, Enva were able to reduce the risk of a bad hire, all the while demonstrating our professional and thorough end-to-end recruitment process.
