Our Client

Our client is a market-leading manufacturer within industrial engineering, supplying products and services across a range of industries including Oil & Gas, Mining, Marine and Structural. As part of the increased effort on innovation, they are looking to strengthen their Corporate Research & Innovation Centre in Northern Europe and want to further build their capabilities in solutions beyond steel.

There is an opportunity for a Polymer Technology Specialist to join the business, to work in the Materials Solutions Centre. This central team works together with teams across the business units, the Corporate Innovation Team and the many colleagues of R&I and help to bring innovative new products and solutions to the market. This role will be based primarily within the UK for the first 6-12 months, subsequently relocating to the Technology Center in Northern Europe. Initially you will be working on the development of emerging products and technologies for the fast-developing renewable energy sector.

To be successful in this role you will have a Master's degree in Materials Science and/or PhD in chemistry as well as 5 to 10 years of experience in a production and/or development environment. This is a highly technical role which requires specific working knowledge in the following areas:

  • polymer materials and characteristics to enable design and specification of material solutions, knowledge of fibre technologies, extrusion / injection molding and drawing processes and their processing properties and characteristics.
  • process development of polymer extrusion and drawing materials to specific parameters to achieve required properties and quality assurance
  • technology fibres, thermoplastic materials, and resin compounds such as Polyester; Polyamide; HMPE; Aramid; Vectran; Carbon;…

In addition, you are a team player, with strong communication skills and can easily collaborate well with others at all levels both internally and externally. You have an entrepreneurial mindset and like to work independently and you have the ability to drive collaboration & cooperation across different functions and Business Units.

Fluent English is a requirement of this role, as is a willingness to travel and/or relocate.
