Enva Wood Recycling
Industry: Waste Management
Job title recruited: Commercial Manager
Services: Retained executive search
"From the first interaction Bart displayed an understanding of the industry and therefore was able to not only appreciate what we needed but actually helped us to develop the scope and therefore our terms of reference by using his knowledge of similar roles and functions in the Waste and Recycling sector.
This combined with the hands on communications and refinement process from the whole team, ensured the candidates we saw met the brief both from a capabilities perspective but also in terms of personality fit – which for us was equally important.
Throughout the process the team provided excellent feedback, the candidates were well briefed and most importantly we didn’t waste any time. Ultimately the biggest result is that over a period of 7 weeks we briefed, interviewed and offered a senior positon and we couldn’t be happier with the result – fantastic addition to our team and a brilliant fit for future growth." Business Development Director, Enva Group

Enva Wood Recycling make up just over £20m of the Groups turnover and their ethos is simple: Many of the world’s resources are finite in their nature. They want to create valuable secondary resources from the waste that we generate, and that’s exactly what they do at Enva wood recycling.
As the business experienced further growth, Enva recognised the need to develop their senior leadership team and provide further proactive support for the Business Development Director already in post. The role of Commercial Manager was deemed a business-critical position in order for the wood recycling division to reach and exceed the organisation’s capabilities. The successful candidate would be tasked with leadership and development of the sales team, implementing effective budgeting policies and procedures, whilst delivering an effective sales strategy. A high visibility position, with regular reporting into the group board, our brief was to identify a high performing individual who could develop close working relationships, invest time to develop the existing team and give a strategic vision of sales growth opportunities. In addition, Enva needed someone who demonstrated immediate leadership credibility and turned to Newman Stewart because of our expertise operating at this senior level within the waste management industry.
Newman Stewart used a combination of confidential approaches via our executive search and management selection process, identifying those passive candidates capable of fulfilling the assignment brief and utilising our extensive network within the designated geographical radius. Having interviewed numerous candidates, measuring both technical capabilities and behaviours, we presented a shortlist of five high calibre candidates. Following our face to face interviews, a series of psychometric tests and a two-stage interview process with Enva, a successful candidate was identified and offered the position as Commercial Manager. Consistent and transparent communication with the client throughout the process meant that we had an in depth understanding of their objectives and organisational culture, leading us to exactly what they were looking for. Our regular feedback sessions, coupled with our evidence-based search process and direct approaches meant that we could act quickly and Enva trusted that our process would bring them an exceptional candidate who could deliver the desired results.
A business critical role fulfilled in a professional and timely manner meant that Enva did not waste precious time and resources attempting to source candidates themselves. By engaging with Newman Stewart to fulfil this assignment, Enva were able to reduce the risk of a bad hire and we were able to demonstrate our professional and thorough, end-to-end recruitment process.
